The
Editor Speaks 14/4/2010

Greetings one and all,
Life goes slowly by at The Lair. The O2
Academy 20/3/2010 New Model Army review is up in
the Live
Lounge.
In The News ; - First off let us offer
our support to UNITE. The only trade union in the country
that still has the balls to call a nation wide strike.
We wish them well with their struggle for safe working
conditions, the protection of workers rights, and fair
pay.
A new DVD player hits the markets which will automatically
censor what you see. Cut from your films will be violence,
blood, nudity, sex, swearing, and blasphemy. All at
the flick of a switch and aimed at ‘families’.
Shit, why not just not watch any films at all and go
off and do some family activities instead ? No wonder
some folks grow up with no concept of reality.
Human Rights are under attack both from Labour, and
Tory future Governments. We already know what the Labour
Party has and is doing to erode Human Rights by it’s
consent in it’s complicity to torture ‘terror’
suspects via the CIA. The Tory Party say that if they
become the next government they will introduce new ‘common
sense’ powers. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling
says he wants to see a “healthy dose of common
sense in policing, and not the rule driven political
correctness we have at present”. Expect a lot
more innocent protesters to be beaten to death at protest
rallies and trade union disputes. Expect more unreasoned
stop and searches. Expect more harassment on your nights
out, and expect the riots which will surely result from
heavy handed plods using their lack of common sense.
There’s a lot of fuss over legal drug mephedrone
linked to twenty five deaths by the U.K. media. Another
member of the governments Drug Advisory Council has
resigned over the governments attempt to rail road a
ban on mephedrone for political reasons. Now, while
appreciating there may well be a danger in using legal
highs, we at The Lair, think it would be much more interesting
to study the reasons why there is such a vast market
for ‘legal’ highs. Could it be that the
policy of prohibition has actually created the market
? We think the answer is yes, and therefore it is the
government itself who by pursuing an unworkable, illogical,
and immoral policy has created a potentially lethal
market in poisons aimed at the youth market and in so
doing may well be directly responsible for these folks
deaths. A far more sensible approach would be the legalization
of all drugs and their strict retail regulation through
chemists like in Victorian times. That way folks who
wish to use drugs can obtain them uncontaminated, at
set weights, at set prices, in a safe environment geared
to safe using and administered by the Department Of
Health instead of the criminal underclass.
The big news is the oncoming General Election. Here
at The Lair we advise folken to deliberately spoil their
ballot papers in protest at the piss poor selection
we are given to make. There is no box for ‘none
of the above’ or ‘these folks aren’t
fit to govern’ or ‘I do not consent to be
ruled’. Only space to make an X, the mark of the
ignorant man. At the Lair we believe our, and your,
opinions are worth more than that. The Labour Party
have betrayed it’s own members as well as the
General Public. It has lied, deceived, bullied, and
bribed it’s way through the last thirteen years
and took us into the worst armed dishonourable and unjustifiable
conflict in history and reintroduced the medieval practice
of torture to illicit information. It has torn up the
Magna Carte, undermined Human Rights, and rode rough
shod over the wishes of this lands people. The Tory
Party were no better last time they were in power and
are set to be a whole lot worse next time. They may
have gone through a make-over and brought in new faces
but underneath it’s still business as usual, ‘fuck
the poor’, the same shit in a different bucket.
Liberal Democrats, just what do they believe in ? Apparently
they don’t really want to change the system that
much, they just want to be in charge of it, like the
others, and collect the perks they’ve been missing
out on all this time. Not really a great choice is it
? In the end rule must be by consent. Do you consent
to be ruled by those who intend to rule you ?
Playing Out; Viper will be at the
Planet-X Reunion in May.

Lair
Language
In
the rush to get published it often happens that
we incur type errors and the odd spelling mistake.
Our policy has always been more 'Sniffin' Glue'
than 'The Times On Sunday' .
The
first ever dictionary of the English Language
was only published in 1755. It was an attempt
to standardise the spelling of words so that
everybody could then read what others wrote.
Before the dictionary Olde English as it is
now known took priority, with spellings changing
from place to place along with local pronounciation
and accent.
There
was no standard way to spell words. So long
as the message could be read and its sense was
clear, the variation in spelling was unimportant.
The dictionary simply marked a point in linguistics
from which we are able to agree or disagree
on word spelling as we see fit.
English
Literature as a topic of study did not come
into being until the late 1890's. Occasionally
we do use Olde English here at the Lair, and
we see no reason why we shouldn't.

Fantasy
& Fiction Theme Of The Lair
Our
home page is and shall continue to be an artistic
conception. Though real images have been used
to create it, and other pages in the Lair, we
stress that our Lair is a fictional creation,
in the fictional setting of the
Dominion Of El-Dan.
The emphasis here is on interactivity and the
conception of the design was intended to stimulate
the imagination of the viewer.
We
believe that if you're here and reading this
then its because you actually want to be visiting
our site. If you want to be here, we believe
your prepared to spend a little time looking
around the place. We aim to make that as interesting
and entertaing an experience as possible. Expect
regular changes.
Though
initially started in embryo over at EDIT Forums
during Dec 2002 - 2003 the seeds for the concept
of the look of the Lair strech much further
back to the time of my youth.

Though
some artistic liberty may be taken with a subtle
blending of fact with fiction in Lair story
lines, all articles, essays, features and reviews
are free from the fictional theme and concept
of our viewer orientated presentation.
Those
who helped develop the characters I'll be establishing
here, over at EDIT, thank you. Like as not I
may include you somewhere at some time.
